Google PageRank (PR) - explained |
Articles > Google PageRank (PR) - explained Web Design Search Engines Marketing Other Articles |
The PR is the heart of the ranking system. Everything else being equal, the web page with the highest PR value will be ranked highest. A web page's Google PR is a number from 1 to 10 (or 0 prior to ranking). To view the PR for pages within your website:
This PR value is basically what Google deems to be the importance of your page when compared to other web pages. Each page within your website may have a different PR value. Google uses a complex PR algorithm to calculate each web page's PR based on the quality and quantity of links to the web page. PR isn't a linear value, it's logarithmic, making it a lot easier to boost a web page's PR from 3 to 4, than from 6 to 7. The PR shown in the Google toolbar represents the integer value of the web page's PR, the true value used by Google is a fractional value. If your web page is listed for a non-competitive keyword, a PR value of 4 might be good enough to achieve high rankings in search engine results. If your web page is listed for a competitive keyword you may need to aim for a higher PR. In general though, when it comes to PR higher is always better. |
