So
how do you get great Search Engine Rankings? Many website owners are confused
about how to achieve great search engine rankings. So this article explains
the cold hard truth.
Keywords in your Meta tags and Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) aren't
enough. You have to have a long term marketing plan for your website that
includes certain fundamentals for you to rise in the search engine rankings…
- Website marketing is long term: Look at your Website
marketing plan as a long term effort. FACT - new websites often do not
rank well in Google for some time. It will take time and effort to be
ranked higher than the websites that already top the rankings. Rome
wasn't built in a day and attaining great search engine rankings doesn’t
happen in a day, a month, or even a year. Any business that hopes to
succeed needs to take a consistent and informed long-term approach.
- Research your keywords: Don’t target one-word
keywords - it’s too difficult. Concentrate on targeting two-three
word keyword phrases instead of one-word keywords. There are several
tools to help you research what keyword phrases visitors are actually
searching for, such as Google’s
AdWords Keyword Tool.
- Analyse the competition: Part of putting your website
marketing plan together is to analyse your competition. Do a search
with your top keyword phrases on the various search engines (Google,
Yahoo, Bing etc) so that you know the number of websites already competing
for each keyword phrase and who is ranking successfully for the terms
you are targeting. This starts to give you an understanding of the competition.
- Target different keywords throughout the website:
Ensure each page within your website targets and is optimised for only
a couple of two-three word phrases. Search engine results are based
on a number of factors; one being relevancy for the keywords being searched.
If you are targeting ten keywords per page, your web page can’t
be strongly focused on any of the keywords, whereas another web page
concentrating on only a couple of phrases is more able to be highly
relevant for those keyword phrases.
- Provide quality content: To surpass the websites
already ranking well, you have to better their offerings! You need to
make your website better and more valuable to website visitors than
the competition. Your website will never rise to the top of the search
engine rankings if it doesn’t have anything unique and of quality
to offer.
- Update your website regularly: Add new information
to your website on a daily, weekly or at least monthly basis. Articles,
white papers, frequently asked questions (FAQs) not only add value,
but will also help target relevant keyword phrases. Provide the type
of information people looking for your product and/or services will
find useful, search for and that other websites will want to link to.
In summary, great search engine rankings require time, effort and a realistic
understanding of how rankings are achieved. This is the reality of how
great rankings are attained - over time. There are no short cuts top search
engine rankings. Its really quite simple - endeavour to make your website
the best it can be; “the website” for your product and/or
services; and your search engine rankings will improve! Website rankings,
as well as websites should be viewed as a work in progress.
If all of this sounds too hard or you need faster results, you can always
invest in a Pay-Per-Click or other advertising program to reach your website
traffic goals sooner. |
