What's in a domain name?
|
Set
realistic goals.
Many people just think "I need a website" and don't think
about it's return on investment, then wonder why they are disappointed
when it hasn't paid for itself within the first month.
Realise that it takes time to build a profile for your website and that
it's benefits may not be directly translated into sales immediately.
Has it reduced the number of routine calls you receive requesting information?
Or reduced printing and postage costs of sending brochures? Have you
measured these benefits?
- Good design.
Ensure your website is designed to be: visually appealing, fast loading
and easy to navigate. It should also be search engine friendly. If your
website isn't found in search engines, your business is missing out
on a large number of potiential visitors.
- Update your website on a regular basis.
People will keep returning to your website if the information on it
it current.
- Seek feedback.
Invite people to comment on your website, customers, friends, suppliers
etc. Their suggestions could just save you money - or bring in more
business. You can review your competition's websites to get ideas too.
- Obtain quality link to your website.
Approach industry associations, customers, suppliers and other relevant
websites and ask them to review your website with the offer of reciprocal
linking. The more links to your website, the better your rankings in
Google search engine and the more opportunities potential clients have
to get to your website.
- Monitor your website traffic.
Review your website statistics to see how visitors find your website
and what keywords they are searching for. These statistics will tell
you if paying for inclusion in an industry specific directory is worth
the annual fee and if you should update your content to include more
information on specific terms.
