Domain name Requirements
.au domain names must:
- exactly match the name of your business; or
- be an acronym or abbreviation of the name of your business; or
- be otherwise closely and substantially connected to your business,
because the domain name refers to:
- a service that your business provides; or
- a program that your business administers; or
- an event that your business organises or sponsors; or
- an activity that your business facilitates, teaches or trains;
or
- a venue that your business operates; or
- a profession that you or your employees practise.
Allowable Characters for .au domain names
.com.au domain names must:
- Be at least 2 characters long.
- Contain only english-language letters (a - z), numbers (0 - 9) and
hyphens (-) may be used eg: www.abacus-design-123.com.au.
- Not begin or end in a hyphen. They must start and end with a number
or a letter.
- Not have two hyphens in a row and cannot contain hyphens in the third
and fourth position (eg. ab--cd.com.au).
- Not contain spaces and special characters (such as !, $, &, ?and
so on).
Domain names are NOT case sensitive. You can advertise your name in upper
or lower case or a combination of both.
Number of domain names
There is no restriction on the number of domain names that a business
can register.
Domain Name License
There are no proprietary rights to domain names. If you register a domain
name, you do not “own” it. Instead, you hold a licence to
use the domain name, for a specified period of time and under certain
terms and conditions. |
